I’m behind on posting here, I apologize. I still need to post about the awesomeness that was Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) and I will, I promise, I will, but first this post if for the Prince…and how the King and your fair future Queen made his day an epic one, mostly by coincidence, but don’t tell him that.
Today, in a city about an hour’s drive from us, was the 2nd Annual ANS Sci-Fi and Comic Con. Even though it was a bit of a drive, we decided about a month ago, that it’d be a fun thing to do together and we’d all go in costume. The King went as Captain America, I was Twilight Sparkle and the Prince was Wolverine. He was so excited about getting to wear his costume, complete with claws, that he thought when the sun went down Friday night it was time to get into the costumes! So cute!
Finally we arrived to the Con and were greeted by a Stormtrooper with the 501st Legion, who were in attendance and also playing putt-putt with the children. The Prince was awed when he saw the stormtrooper, enter first photo-op. We walked around and I realized, while we were waving and being stopped for photos, we were the only family in costume. There were some children, but other than a few other Star Wars cosplayers, we were the only adults in costume. I owned it!
Our young Prince Wolvie was leading the way and managed to find some sort of secret stage area. Well, it wasn’t really secret, we just hadn’t gone up to it yet. Lo and behold, who would be in a corner of this hidden area…none other than a life-sized, interactive, beeping and bopping, lights lighting up R2D2!! The Prince was so excited, he forgot his manners and photobombed another kid who was getting his picture taken with R2. After waiting his turn, Prince got to stand next to R2 and look right at him! To say he was speechless is incorrect, because the Prince was telling R2 about the Stormtroopers!
The guy who built this R2D2 replica did an amazing job! It sounded and looked just like what I’ve seen in the movies. He made so many kids happy today, with his incredible R2 droid. I know I have one very impressed little prince who wanted to keep seeing R2 as many times as we’d let him. It was that single-minded desire that led to the biggest score of the day: a Hasbro x-wing with Luke pilot, plus a tantan (I think) and another figure all for 2 bucks! Added with the 4 Star Wars squinkies he also got earlier and Prince made out like a…well, a Prince!
Today was all about him geeking out. We were merely his supporting cast.
